Eligibility Requirements (Vehicle Code §1808.7)
Your court decides who's eligible for traffic school — so if your citation or courtesy notice already gave you the option to attend, you're good to go. As a general rule, this works for minor one-point violations where you weren't driving a commercial vehicle and don't have a mandatory court date. Not sure? Your citation paperwork or a quick call to the court will confirm it.
One thing worth knowing: completing traffic school keeps this ticket off your public driving record and away from your insurance company — but it doesn't erase or reduce the fine itself. You'll still need to pay your citation's bail/fine to the court; that's separate from your course fee here.
Common Questions
Will my completion actually get reported to my court?
Yes. Once you pass the final exam and submit your course evaluation, we report your completion directly to your court through the California DMV's TVCC system. You'll also get a copy of your certificate of completion by email for your own records.
Does my ticket actually qualify for traffic school?
Most minor, one-point moving violations qualify (speeding, rolling through a stop sign, an improper turn, and similar). Your court has the final say, so check with the court or your citation paperwork first — some courts require you to request traffic school before you pay your fine.
Is there a time limit to finish the course?
The 11 chapters have no time limit at all — read at your own pace, and your progress saves automatically so you can stop and come back any time. Only the final exam has a timer: 60 minutes for 25 questions, and it's open-book.
What happens if I don't pass the final exam?
You get a second attempt with a different set of questions at no extra charge. Most students pass on their first try by reading carefully — remember, the exam is open-book.
Is Road Ready actually DMV-approved?
Yes — Road Ready Driving & Traffic School is licensed by the California DMV as a Traffic Violator School, license number E0676. You can verify any TVS license directly on the DMV's website.
